Kinja'd!!!

On the way home today I stopped to check out a 2008 Titan Pro 4X. The irrational (normal) side of me wanted to do the deal right there. But.. I don’t know.

I’m used to not having a payment and really like it.

I know I can’t keep putting bandaids on Crusty. And I know it..

It has 112k on the clock, looks just like the one pictured and they want $13,500. With a good downstroke I could get $199/mo payments for 3 years.

What do you think?

Our church has one that gets used pretty hard and heavy pulling a heavy mess trailer around the country on trips every summer. Seems to have held up quite well.

Plus, the 5.6 has a really nice exhaust note.

Prepare for crappy gas mileage. Otherwise, I’ve always liked the Titan.

Another +1 for the VK56 exhaust note

The Titan is kinda like an F-200. Not quite heavy duty, but close. The gas mileage will be comparable to 18ish highway, so be warned.

Otherwise, I've only heard good things from friends that own them. Just too guzzl-y for me.

I DD a 1995 F150 70-110 miles a day. I never complain about Gas mileage or prices.

It does have a nice sound!

I’ve only ever heard good things, except for the gas mileage. But then, your not buying a truck an economy car.

They seem to have a lot of hidden packaging features that would make storing things easier. Like the storage in the side of the bed.

I’m used to 10 mpg or so now so this will be an improvement! Woo!

That’s something I haven’t heard. It’s a world of difference compared to my current DD. I was a bit starstruck. That’s why I need to wait.

I fear a Miata won’t be up to hauling 3 wheelers, hunting gear or my Dog.

Well, the Dog might love it actually.

Why? Literally any of the American manufacturers build better trucks. my vote is for a Silverado.

No, they aren’t. The Ford’s were okay, the Ram’s were hit and miss, and while perfectly reliable, the GM’s were terrible in most every way. I have to deal with GMT900's on a daily basis, and I would never recommend one.

I'm interested in them as well, they're the only truck that doesn't really hold value that well. Seems like a great used buy to me.. Would love to add one to the fleet eventually.

I like the storage box behind the rear wheels.

The interior buttons and knobs are fairly grabbable even with gloves on.

They’re known for going through catalytic converters and transmissions, AFAIK.

...Hmmm..

...Get an F-Series.

I’m not ruling out an F150 but Chevy lost me with the slant eyed Silverado. I honestly can’t stand that front end and I’m not a fan of the interior either really.

Trucks are purchased for powertrains, not exteriors or interiors.

Reread my comment. Out of those three, it is the most reliable. It is also by far the most uncomfortable. Putting hundreds of miles on these a day is punishment.

I would normally agree. Work vehicles should be Spartan.

But...

Sometimes I have to drive 3-4 hours to pick up a deal. This means an overnighter so Dog and I need to be comfy.

The only difference between David Tracy and myself is that he found a way to monetize his misfortunes. I’m self limited to one vehicle now.

As someone who spends A LOT of time in GMT900s, you don’t want one. I won’t knock their reliability, but they are extremely uncomfortable to spend long amounts of time in. Even the Dodge’s of those years are better places to spend time, at least when it comes to space and comfort. And I spend up to 12 hours at a time in them, so I do know what I am talking about.

I had to wear goggles.

Also, if we are comparing 2008 trucks, they didn’t get the six speed. They also tend to cost a bit more.

The little bit of time I spent in the company Yukon XL matches your warning. And I’m judging that interior to a 95 F150! If I can’t wait to get back to my personal truck something is wrong.

How much does vehicle downtime cost you? Uptime will be higher with a Chevy.

I get exited climbing back into a ‘95 4Runner, which even I’ll admit has one of the world’s worst seating positions. It’s seats are waaaaay more comfortable. If IIRC, isn’t the Yukon you speak of a GMT800? That generation is way more comfortable than the 900.

Crusty has never actually broken down. I drove it for two weeks on a collapsed front suspension.

And I’m keeping Crusty. You don’t kick a good Dog to the curb because you got a new one.

Great trucks with their share of known issues. The only real downfall of these to me was the final drives weren’t up to heavy towing in high heat situation. The stock dana-44 is a small final drive unit not up to pulling the 9k lbs or so this truck was rated to regularly. That being said they were definitely better than American trucks of the era and are cheap on the used market as well. They drive noticeably smaller and more athletically than American trucks. I much prefer the styling to the Japanese alternative (Tundra), but the Tundra is without a doubt a more heavy duty truck in terms of build.
